    Description

Vintage horse racing program January 27, 1940 at Santa Anita Park. This is a loaded program starting with the 5th race, which was a ,500 allowance race that included GALLAHADION, who would go on to win that year's Kentucky Derby and finish third in the Preakness Stakes, and MIOLAND, who went on to finish second in the Preakness and won the American Derby. The featured race was the San Felipe Handicap, which included highweighted KAYAK 2nd for owner Charles S. Howard, trainer Tom Smith and jockey Red Pollard of Seabiscuit fame. Kayak was scratched from this race, and OUR MAT ended up winning. Also very cool about this program is that SEABISCUIT is listed as being declared from this race. The Biscuit retired in April 1940, so this program is one of the final times his named appeared in a program. We are putting this up with a low starting bid and no reserve!
This program has writing throughout, as pictured, but no major creases or folds and is in very nice condition. There is a bit of staple rust. Please review the photos and use the magnify feature to review the condition. We guarantee satisfaction with the racing items we sell, so if you are not happy with it then it can be returned for a full refund, assuming it is returned in the same condition of course.
Shipping is .95, which includes a rigid mailer reinforced with cardboard for protection.
Please check out other auctions for many other historical horse racing items to be listed in the coming weeks, with other programs from the 1930s and 1940s, including several Seabiscuit programs!
