    Description

    This is a 2" diameter pinback button saying "I Saw Affirmed, Hollywood Park Gold Cup, June 24, 1979."
    When he arrived for the Gold Cup, Affirmed had already run 25 races.  Steve Cauthen, his regular rider, was in a slump, and Laz Barrera remembered Laffit Pincay, Jr.'s winning ride on Affirmed in the Santa Anita Derby the previous year and gave him the call.  Affirmed won (carrying 132 lbs), and became the first horse to exceed M in winnings.  The Gold Cup had a purse of 0,000, and was the richest race Affirmed would ever run in.  Pincay said Affirmed was the best horse he ever rode.
