    Description

Late 19th century color image measures 7 1/2 x 9 inches is attached to a paper backing sheet.. Not sure where this would have been obtained, but while larger, the image is similar to images in Allen & Ginter 1888 World Racer Series Tobacco card set (N32) and 1890 N239 American Running Horses cards.
Salvator (1886-1909) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse who had major wins from 1888-1890. He was Champion 3-Yr. Old Colt in 1889 and US Horse of the year1889 and 1890. He is in the United States Racing Hall of Fame and is honored with the Salvator Mile Handicap at Monmouth Park. The artist Henry Stull (1851-1913) was a member of the Coney Island Jockey Club and specialized in painting race horses.
    This item
came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 etc. ), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park are named.
    Thank you.
