    Description

Iroquois was the first American bred horse to win the Derby Stakes in England. He also won the St. Leger Stakes and was Champion American Sire of 1892. He was sired by Leamington (GB) out of Maggie B.B. (USA). The Iroquois Handicap at Belmont and the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs are named in his honor.
This engraving was likely removed from an early 1880s period publication. It measures 9 1/4 x 6 1/2 inches on paper backing measuring 10 1/8 x 8 1/2 inches.
    This print
came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 etc. ), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park are named.
    Thank you.
