    Description

    This antique hand colored photographic print from a photograph by Clarence Hailey was taken from a period publication and hand colored. It measures 5 7/8  x 4 7/8 inches on paper backing measuring 8 1/4 x 6 1/8 inches. The illustration has an inset of jockey Charles Wood and states that St. Simomn was the best horse he ever rode.
    Sired by Galopin, St. Simon was undefeated  and additionally was Leading Sire in Britain & Ireland 1890-1896 and 1900-1901. The St. Simon Stakes at Newbury is named in his honor.
    The item
    came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 etc. ), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park is named.
