Description
Marvin E. Oliver(1946-2019) is one of the Northwest Coast’s foremost contemporary Native American (Quinault/Isleta-Pueblo) sculptors and printmakers, who has made strides in the art world for the development and recognition of Native American Contemporary Fine Art. “My works are formulated by merging the spirit of past traditions with those of the present… to create new horizons for the future”
Oliver’s career spanned over 45 years, working in a wide range of media, including carvings and sculpture, printmaking, blown glass art, and large-scale public artwork installations.
Serigraphs are silkscreened prints hand executed by Marvin and his family. (The cards are done the same way. ) The prints are signed and numbered in a limited edition. (The cards are not numbered.) Most integrate embossing which is done after the screen printing and is accomplished with a metal plate (die) that is acid-etched in copper or hand-cut in brass, heated and then pressed into the paper with tonnage. The art cards are 100% cotton rag paper and come with a single deckle edge and original signature.
Marvin has been silk-screening his prints since the 1970’s.
I purchased this art card in the 1990's and it's been tucked away ever since. The card is in new condition with it's original envelope in a clear plastic sleeve. The second signature on the left is Joe Feddersen, artist, who Marvin met and collaborated with at the University of Washington.
