    Description

Photograph, likely taken in the early 1930s of an 1839 painting by E. Troye of Hall of Fame racehorse Boston. The photo  measures 9 5/8 x 7 3/4 inches. The reverse has inked notations regarding the painting and its ownership.
Boston was one of the initial horses inducted into the United States Racing Hall of Fame. In 45 career races he finished first 40 times plus 2 places and a show. He was the Leading sire in North America in 1851, 1852 and 1853.

otograph came with a number of horse racing items that belonged to Walter S. Vosburgh, an original member of The Jockey Club, turf historian ( author of American Racing, 1866-1921 etc. ), official handicapper for various racing associations, including New York race tracks from 1894-1934 and for whom the Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park is named.
